The book Applying RCS and SCCS, offers a detailed discussion of the RCS and SCCS version control tools, with particular emphasis on building scripts on top of RCS and SCCS to accomplish version control tasks.

The book is organized in terms of increasingly complex management problems, from simple source management to managing multiple releases to coordinating teams of developers on a project involving many files and more than one target platform.

The book contains several pages that describe CVS, starting on page 431.
