The C Programming Language

This is the best known and one of the best books on the C language. I find it quite readable, but it definitely assumes knowledge of some programming language and opinions seem to be divided on whether it is really best to know some C before picking up the book.

The second edition describes C as defined by the ANSI standard.

The author has a web page which mainly lists translations of the book. It also has some errata, as does lysator.liu.se.
