Date: Fri, 7 Aug 1998 02:32:32 -0700 From: Noel Cragg To: devel-cvs@cyclic.com Subject: Halibut update After talking with a few folks, I don't think we should make any more major changes to CVS before releasing it. This is the list of what I plan to check in before releasing Halibut: * a few test cases for the symlinks-in-repository code * a small (might we say "trivial?") patch to make read-only access `rdiff' work (I'll check that in right now) Here's a list of other things that look clean but haven't received a whole lot of testing. Since we want Halibut to be stable, we shouldn't check them in until _after_ the release: * remote rcsinfo doesn't work * pserverd patches from John O'Connor (john@shore.net) http://www.parallax.co.uk/~andyp/pserverd.patch * changes to make "cvs diff" output useable by patch Here's another list of feature requests that came up as a result of me asking what needed to be done before the release. For some, we need to write code, while for others, we only need to apply existing patches. We need to decide if they should be included in the next general release (the one after Halibut). The nominees are: * fix rcslib in case comparing version number explicitly to 1.1 * all usages of `-r' handle values the same as `-j' (e.g. update -r"RELENG_2_2:January 1") * command to refresh Template, *.prog, Notify, & c. * command to change contents of CVS/Root files in working directory * use /etc/cvs.passwd instead of $CVSROOT/CVSROOT/passwd? * CVS_USER environment variable patches from Noah Friedman friedman@splode.com I'm sure I've missed a few, but this is at least something for us to chew on, mentally speaking [talk about confused imagery!]. -- Noel CRAGG // 6244 Aberdeen Av // Goleta CA 93117-2002 // 805.964.1892
