Cyclic RUST page
RUST is a free bug-tracking system. That is, it provides a mechanism to maintain a database of problem reports and the status of resolving each one and produce reports from that database. Cyclic does not offer RUST support contracts.
RUST Summary
Here are a few pros and cons of RUST compared with other bug-tracking systems.Strengths:
- Nicely integrated with email. In particular, submitting a problem report by merely sending unformatted email to a given address works well.
- Features for tracking estimated time of a fix and time spent on each problem.
- Larger set of states than many problem tracking systems (new, open, active, pending, ongoing, resolved).
- No emacs or web interfaces.
- States are not configurable. For example, you might want two separate states instead of "resolved", one which means that the user has been told the problem has been fixed, and one that means that the user has agreed that the fix indeed solves the problem. If this were controlled by a configuration file, individual sites could easily add whatever states apply to them.
Mailing lists and newsgroups
There are several mailing lists for discussions concerning RUST; for details see the Utah RUST page mentioned below.
The newsgroup for RUST (and other bug tracking and version control systems) is comp.software.config-mgmt.
Downloading RUST
I suppose we need to make an explicit disclaimer that the RUST distributions listed below are not supported by Cyclic. In most cases we are just redistributing or linking to a distribution provided by someone else, and didn't even help write any of it.
For information on downloading RUST, see the Utah RUST page mentioned below.
