Here's what Mark Hamstra of Bentley has to say about their use of CVS:

Bentley Systems uses CVS as its primary CM solution. At present, we have just under 2.5 gigabytes of CVS archives that account for almost 100,000 files. These archives are currently accessed from 13 distinct geographical locations worldwide. We have not experienced any significant difficulties in using CVS to satisfy these requirements, proving to our satisfaction CVS's ability to handle large projects.
